What do you want to do?

People say that 2nd PU or twelfth standard is a turning point in your life. But what do they truly mean by this statement. Is it merely deciding the path which will help you make a living? What I consider more important is, however, what you want to do with the living.

What is my purpose? This is the question to be asked.

A common ordeal of a student is answering the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I once heard a child reply, “I want to be happy.” And this reply was in defiance with the usual reply, “doctor, engineer, lawyer or accountant.” That child knew what was truly important in life and most adults have lost sight of this. But how did they come to state? As a child they too have had dreams, but circumstances might not have let them pursue it.

How do we know which path takes us to happiness? The path which will enable the manifestation of the inner desire is the only path.  Every person has a natural state, and circumstances and influences could have made the person to lose consciousness of this natural state. By realizing this state once more, the purpose is seen once more, and by pursuing it true happiness can be found.

No amount of external force will enable a person to realize his or her true potential. The desire to do something which is supported by an inner force is the only element which brings about the realization of one’s true potential. A person is successful in a particular aspect, if he has gone to the depths of it. Sachin Teldulkar, Albert Einstein, A R Rahaman, Aamir Khan, Bill Gates or any other great person have all gone to the depths of their interest. What would happen if Sachin was forced to be a composer or Einstein an actor, would they have reached their epitome?

Today in India, the cause of many suicides is related with academics. Education which is supposed to bring about the ‘manifestation of the knowledge within’ is provided by the same system which has caused this havoc.

Now is the time during which students are taking many entrance exams. Some of them definite about their goals, some clouded, some following the mob and some may go into depression if their expectations are not met. In the world of opportunities today, it is more important to discover your inner desire and choose a career which will bring about their fulfillment. Life is much larger than exams; a person’s future is not sealed based on his results, despite the popular belief. The courage to do what one truly desires can be got only by faith in oneself. The education system today is in constant rebellion with that faith. And some might have lost this faith. But without this faith is life worth living?
